IOTech has been a member of the Linux Foundation's EdgeX Foundry project since its inception in 2017. IOTech is now a member of LF Edge - an umbrella project for open source edge software that includes EdgeX Foundry.
Download and evaluate Edge Xpert, Edge XRT and Edge Builder - IOTech's IoT Edge software and system management platforms for Industrial IoT Edge applications. Available for Linux, Windows, Debian, Ubuntu, Microsoft Azure Sphere.
Jakarta is the 9th successful community release of EdgeX Foundry. It is a minor/dot release (version 2.1) and backward compatible with the previous Ireland (2.0) release.
Edge computing focuses on the processing of operational data at the edge of the network. That means performing data collection functions and running decision making and control algorithms as close to the edge sensors and OT devices as possible. However, it is also clear that cloud computing continues to provide much value in the Industrial IoT space. This means that most systems require a hybrid solution consisting of both edge and cloud components working together in a cohesive way. Users require the ability to utilize cloud resources for heavy-duty applications, while using edge computing for lighter-weight processing and local, real-time insights. IOTech's edge software products enable seamless yet secure data sharing between your edge and cloud environments.
Edge Xpert 1.8 is the latest release based on EdgeX Foundry's Hanoi update plus new features including Computer Vision, Device Configuration Tool and Connectivity and Platform Upgrades
Edge Xpert addresses security issues at the edge via restricting access and authorization, authentication and secret management which are key aspects of the platform infrastructure. Threat detection is also a feature that comes in partnership with RSA for added support for integrated threat detection and live monitoring capability at the edge.
Edge XRT is the software platform for time-critical and resource-constrained edge systems that supports edge computing key requirements such as dynamic edge data processing and the integration of multiple different southbound OT and northbound IT/Cloud endpoints. Edge XRT also supports key non-functional properties such as small memory footprint (e.g. less than 100 KB), ultra-low latency data processing (e.g. less than 100 microseconds), predictable and deterministic real-time execution, and legacy hardware and/or operating systems
The emergence of Multi Access Edge Computing (MEC) technology aims at extending cloud computing capabilities to the edge of the radio access network, hence providing real-time, high-bandwidth, low-latency access to radio network resources. IoT is identifed as a key use case of MEC, given MEC's ability to provide cloud platform and gateway services at the network edge. MEC will inspire the development of many new applications and services with demand for ultra-low latency and high Quality of Service (QoS) due to its dense geographical distribution and wide support for mobility. MEC is therefore an important enabler of IoT applications and services which require real-time operations.
Edge Xpert is a comprehensive yet open and extensible edge computing platform based on EdgeX Foundry's open-source platform developed to greatly decrease OT and IT integration effort, reduce time to market and lower your total cost and business risk.
